Our Vision
A team where anyone can belong. A team for all.
The Antetokounmpo brothers’ vision is to provide children coming from low income families with the opportunities they lacked when growing up, and let kids experience the power of sport to change lives.
NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers – widely known as AntetokounBros – have launched Antetokounmpo Academy, a program to help boys and girls (aged 10-17) and aspiring coaches (aged 18-25) realize their sporting potential, gain confidence and useful life skills.
AntetokounBros believe that through Academy actions, children will receive inspiration along with skills that will help them build character, learn to work hard, be better teammates, and become the best version of themselves not only on the basketball court but also at home, at school and within the community.
The mission of this program in Greece is to provide access to sport, inspiration through education, and scholarships to open pathways in life.
The Program
Antetokounmpo Academy is a community program that combines basketball training and educational inspiration aimed at young boys and girls aged 10 to 17 coming from low income families.
The program involves 90 minutes of basketball training twice a week for 120 athletes per year at two training outdoor basketball courts:
Lamprini outdoor basketball court (Amyklon & Teo, Athens) and Ellinoroson outdoor basketball court (Chalepa 2, Athens) , with each hosting 60 athletes.
Moreover, the program provides up to 12 training positions for junior coaches aged 18 to 25 during the season. The junior coaches will be able to participate in the training sessions of the AntetokounBros Academy under the supervision of the Head Coach Evina Maltsi, an international athlete, who has made history in women’s basketball.
In addition to the core basketball training, the program involves athlete clinics from basketball athletes, tournament events, a series of mentoring workshops, inspirational speeches, and basketball school sessions that athletes and junior coaches will also need to attend as part of their participation.
Season duration: November 2024 – June 2025
The Courts
Lamprini
During the summer of 2019, Nike refurbished 7 basketball courts in Athens. In Labrini area, graffiti artist Billy Gee created a design inspired by the flame inside Giannis’ heart. The flame inside Giannis’ heart is what gives him strength and motivation to achieve his dreams. It is portrayed with two hands clasped in the shape of a heart at center court. It’s the burning heart that motivates athletes to chase their crazy dreams.
Graffiti artist Cacao Rocks was the artist that curated the court of Ampelokipoi. The design of the court communicates hard work, one of the key success factors for an athlete, and of course Giannis. The mural is characterized by absolute symmetry, highlighting the strict framework in which an athlete must train in order to reach his goals. The artist experienced the creation of his work just like his theme: with many hours of hard work designing and painting the court. Much like how the dreams of the young athletes of the Antetokounmpo Academy will unfold.
Ellinoroson
Graffiti artist Nique says: “When Nike commissioned me to create a custom painting for the Ellinoroson court, I knew my inspiration was the Antetokounmpo story and a hope that wherever you are, or come from, if you try hard enough you can succeed. This was the concept for my drawing: From nothing to everything”
“The way I work, not a lot of people do. When I’m on the court, I’m going to make sure they know that they didn’t work as hard as me.”
